GERVAIS MAILLARD | BIO



Born in France and raised in England, South Africa, and Belgium, Gervais Maillard started his musical training at a young age at his local conservatory. After pursuing piano performance education in multiple countries, Gervais spent a summer at Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and subsequently moved to Boston where he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Gervais actively wrote for the jazz orchestra and graduated with Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition with high honors. Gervais studied under acclaimed composers including Scott Free, Victor Bailey (Weather Report), and Fulbright Scholar Margaret McAllister. His jazz « Pistachio Sorbet » is part of the soundtrack for award winning 2019 film « In a New York Minute ».

Gervais also founded award-winning band People the Kangaroo with established singer and composer Alan Wurman. The band has toured nationally for years, including as the opening act for GRAMMY award winning band Los Rabanes in New York. The band’s first EP was lauded by local press including The Deli Magazine describing the music as « extraterrestrial backing vocals, synth and guitar riffs that twist and turn around one another and drums big enough to fill a stadium ». After relocating to Los Angeles, People the Kangaroo released « You Would Not Believe Me », with the music earning a national GoPro Award, a feature in Rolling Stone Magazine and CNN Chile, and numerous film festival selections and awards.

In addition to his score for the 2016 film «Sound Bytes: Mass(ive) Consumption » premiering at the Provincetown Independent Film Festival, Gervais worked as a session musician for acclaimed film composer Wani Han’s, during the recording of her score for « You are Here » (Directed by Wes Palmer).

Since 2018, Gervais worked as a session musician and arranger for K-Pop artists BEN and Eyedi, contributing to platinum selling records in Korea alongside acclaimed producer Francis Kim. Gervais also worked in the studio with French superstar Patrick Bruel during the making of his double platinum 2019 album « Ce Soir on Sort ».
